14 minutes agoIt was a new experience that was very challenging at the beginning. The capsim simulation was a very unique learning simulation that I had never heard of before. It gave me an opportunity to project my theoretical business management and strategic decision making skills into practical aspect. I realized that there are a lot of factors to consider when setting up a business and there are various phases that a business must go through before it starts realizing its goals and objectives. To minimize your business’s inventory on hand, you should take a look at your inventory items and evaluate each SKU to forecast its sales potential.
Opportunity costs should be considered when analyzing your business’s inventory carrying costs. The resulting figure can be used to determine if inventory carrying costs are optimum or whether they can be reduced. Carrying costs generally run between 20 percent and 30 percent of the total cost of inventory, although it varies depending on the industry and the business size.
The other challenge is global recession which could lead to decreased demand in high tech products. With this, the company will be able to focus on product differentiation e marketing so as to improve sales revenue. The company had incurring production costs that increased over time while revenue grew at a stable rate. It is because of this that the company was unable to maintain or gain profitability until it started its inventory management and control processes. Another weakness would be the dropping of market demand on Apple product which led to decreased profits in the last two rounds. Opportunity cost is generally defined as the price of foregoing other, possibly more advantageous uses for money that is being tied up in the stored goods.
Reorder points can be influenced by how far suppliers are located from the company’s location, since closer suppliers have shorter delivery times. Thus, changing suppliers can have an impact on reorder points and quantities. A business that wants to reduce its inventory carrying costs could do so by purchasing from a cluster of suppliers that is located nearby. The SWOT analysis shows that the company has a high market demand, and also no competitors in its segments of Able and Apple products. With this, the company will be able to focus on product differentiation and marketing so as to improve sales revenue.
Inventory carrying costs are often referred to simply as holding costs. A company’s inventory carrying cost can be expressed as a percentage. It is calculated by adding up the total carrying costs and dividing it by the total value of inventory, then multiplying by 100 to get a percentage. Contribution margin is revenue minus labor, material and inventory carrying cost. It is reported on page 1 of The Courier /FastTrack as an aggregate average of each company’s product portfolio.
We can see a lot of teams that either might have over-produced or had stockouts. A lot of that information is going to be covered in our market share report all the way at the bottom where we get a breakdown of our actual versus potential. Again, a place where we had a lot of talking points for any team, whether we had an emergency loan or not. This is kind of where I center the debrief for any industry.
This is a common approach for car dealerships, or any sellers of expensive consumer goods. Instead, the production process is geared towards very short production runs, so that it can process individual customer orders as they arrive. When we’re looking at Team Eerie, they were the ones that were struggling in terms of margins.
The company had low profit margins due to the fact that, the company was re-investing its profits, identifying creditors while still pumping some money to its sales promotions. The company was also purchasing more machineries to increase production capacity. But before expanding globally, Andrews Company should focus on the ethical, legal, and social challenges that may arise from the international market. The company should also focus on product differentiation and marketing in order to increase sales revenue. Finally, the company should put in place measures to control production costs and inventory costs. These challenges can be addressed by the company before it decides to expand globally.
It may be difficult at first but once you are able to generate revenue from it, you will realize that its worth the effort and resources put into it. Perishable or trendy inventory has a higher cost of obsolescence than nonperishable or staple items. Inventory risk includes shrinkage, depreciation and product obsolescence.
I want to pick out the products that are really hurting, and one that comes off the page here is Echo. Echo is sitting at a 14 percent margin, which is pretty abysmal. So, the nice thing is here, we get a breakdown of Echo’s stats from left to right. Their margin is made up of what they’re pricing one unit at versus what it’s costing them to make it.
Your inventory carrying cost as a percentage of your total inventory value is an important figure. It tells you what percentage of your total inventory expense was used in storing, transporting, and handling inventory items. When the company is public, analysts monitor its inventory carrying costs over time for big changes and also job costing vs process costing compare its inventory carrying costs against those of others in its peer group. If this percentage goes above 30%, however, find ways to lower your inventory carrying costs. Keeping more inventory on hand, especially when you stock fast-selling items, helps maximize sales, but may also lead to higher insurance and tax rates.
So, some standouts on this page, the one that I think we should probably focus on with our debrief, or what I would focus on in the debrief is Team Eerie here. Let’s try to engage with the class and find out what we could do to increase this margin. Since this is a more of a collective margin, I think it’s important as if we get the breakdown of each of our individual products. So again, we’re going to scroll back down to page four, as you’re already probably imagining. Page four is also a really, really important section when we’re trying to debrief the class.
